Ride For Happiness

23rd May 2016

Sunday, 3:00pm, 37ºC. Yet I pushed my folding bike out from my gate to paddle 50km away to Teluk Gong, Klang, for dinner appointment with friends. Insane. ( Ya, people said cyclists are crazy). Rolled out via Kesas Highway motorcycle lane in the scorching sun, though the flat terrain which is easy to tackle, but the ride was challenged with the heat from the searing sun and out from the road too. I was like sandwiched in between two heats.  People always think solo ride is sensational, time alone, mind free and enjoy beautiful scenery that only cyclist could enjoy and will missed if driving…etc. But I think all these are just like the extra waste that came out from in between the legs of a bull. (Bullshit. Hahaha).  For a guy riding on a bicycle in the burning sun and struggling to get under a shade to rest and recuperate along the way, it’s only sweat and sun burn. But satisfaction follow after the ride.

Though on a Sunday afternoon, even though there were still a few motorists, but I was all alone most of the time. And the terrain is good for beginner, flat and mild hill climb. There are many fly-overs thus can easily find shade under the bridge. Also few petrol stations along the way selling drinking water and snacks. It is a good route for endurance training. It will be even more enjoyable ride at the evening without the killing heat.

If you would asked me was it worth to cycle 50km for food, I shall say no. The food was just ordinary, nothing to shout about. But I had to say, yes, it was worth the 50km ride for a good gathering with friends.

Hot day. 37ºC and only one crazy cyclist will ride in such weather. Unfortunately I am the one.

Struggling to get under the shade to rest and recuperate.

Nope, these are not some beautiful scenery that only riders could explore. They are just the failed drainage system along the expressway. 20160522_172347.jpg

The end of of the highway. I just completed riding through the whole stretch of this express way.

After a long hot ride, you certainly need this local made coconut wine to cool down and bring back the energy.

Some of the food. Crab is a must at Klang.
