Before I share our rides of this beautiful island, Langkawi, please allow the beautiful Weay Weay to show you the proper wear of how to avoid ultra violet and sun burn when pedalling in tropical island in hot sun. Please refer to the photo at left. You have to cover yourself from top to toe, with a long beak cap and large sun glasses to protect your face. Arm sleeves and hand gloves is a must, bandanna to cover your neck. Try your best to cover almost every inch of your body until even your friend can’t recognise who you are, like the girl…(err…or man?…) in the photo, than you are safe to start your ride. (Only joking.)

Please take a look at the Sexy Alice (Photo at right), to have a little understanding when riding under hot sun in tropical island without proper protected attire. This photo was taken just after about 10 kilometres cycling under the cruel hot sun. So proper heat wear protection is necessary when cycling in tropical island. (Just another joke.)
Langkawi was listed as one of the top 10 best islands in Asia. This trip is to explore the beauty of the island on saddle.
Total distance to ride around Langkawi island on bicycle is less than 90 kilometres, most cyclist can finish the round island ride in just one day, but we took 2 days so that we can enjoy Langkawi in leisure pace.
Terrain of Langkawi is hilly, there is always up and down. Often we faced steep slopes, some are long ascend. Though some are short uphill but there are many. Nevertheless is not a hard ride if you’re not trying to finish the round island ride in short time. The roads are narrow but traffic is ease, some part are deserted, just the ten of us own the road. After all, it’s safe to explore Langkawi island by bicycle.
Food and lodging are more expensive than main land, it is because there are more tourist than the locals. This is common practice in everywhere in the world where a place is overrun with tourist. But duty free products such as alcoholic drinks and cigarettes, only half the price compare to main land.
It was 2:00pm when the ferry parked at Langkawi Port, the heat was at its climax. Heart pumping ride started just when we rode out from the port, the never ending up and down hill ride, the scorching hot sun roasted on our back like a roast duck, had made this a hard ride day. It was like baptism of fire. But along the way, the beautiful sea view was our reward.

Ride along coastline of Melaca Strait.
Sometimes we pushed, sometime we have to ride off road. This is the fun of bike touring.
